in Latonia on Friday.

A boy was struck and killed by a vehicle in Latonia on Friday.

The child was hit near the intersection of Decoursey Avenue and East 32nd Street around 4:30 pm while riding his bike, say 911 Dispatch reports.

It happened near the Family Dollar store. The vehicle was a lawn-care truck, eyewitnesses say.

The boy has been identified as Eli Kindt.

The driver left the scene -- some social media posts claimed he was being threatened by a man with a gun and angry neighbors -- and met with police at the Latonia Plaza Shopping Center instead.

"The vehicle left the scene without stopping to render aid. A Covington detective on his way home from work happened to be nearby at the time of the call and located the vehicle in the Latonia Plaza Shopping Center," the Commonwealth Attorney posted.

However, the circumstances remain unclear.

45-year-old Christoper Wells (photo) was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a fatal traffic collision.

Eli was active in sports, was a member of the Northern Kentucky Bengal Tigers football team.

Brian Warner, a coach for the team said Eli "was a very inspirational, happy young boy, who had a lot going for him. Eli loved his sports and he loved playing football."

Eli's heartbroken mother, posting at Northern Kentucky News, wrote:

"Me and daddy will always miss you and love you, baby! We will remember all the great memories we had with you."
