Call this Independence
man Mr. Honey

Tom Bays swears by the idea that eating local
honey will alleviate allergies

Tom Bays has been selling honey at the Independence Farmers' Market since it first opened in 2008.

"He is a retiree from Ford where he worked for 24 years. For the last 20 years Mr. Bays has been processing clover honey from his home in Independence," notes a Farmers' Market post on Facebook

"With time he went from 13 bee stands and 6 million bees, to 8 stands and 4 million bees! Nothing to sneeze at for an 84 year young, one man show!

"And speaking of sneezing, Mr. Bays swears by the idea that eating local honey will alleviate allergies. His honey goes from hive to jar, and he says there is very little he and his wife eat without it."

Twenty-eight years ago Mr. Bays was diagnosed with brain cancer and was given 2-3 months to live.

Cancer free now for many years, he considers himself a walking miracle who would not be here today without his unshakable faith in God.

Mr. Bays proudly displays his 100 blue ribbons, won at county and state fairs and has been recognized by the State Senate of Kentucky for his excellence in honey making. If you haven't had the pleasure, stop by his stand on Saturday and have a chat.

"His stories are great and his honey is delicious," the market notes.

Independence Farmers Market is located at 5272 Madison Pike in Independence. It's open on Saturdays from 8:30am-1pm
