NKY temperatures could reach 100 degrees this week
With increasing heat and humidity expected to build into the Ohio Valley later this week into the upcoming weekend, you'll likely hear 'heat index' being mentioned quite often, notes the US Weather Service.
The heat index is actually calculated using a complex mathematical equation and is meant to represent the apparent temperature when factoring in both temperature and relative humidity.
The local area may not have actual air temperatures near 100 F that often, but certainly heat indices near the century mark are part of the summer norm for the Ohio Valley.
