Independence KY: NFL Vikings coach Mike Zimmer says he plans to return to Minnesota in time for a June 5 another eye exam that should determine whether he can resume coaching his team.

Zimmer is recovering from his eighth eye surgery at his off-season home in Independence, where he is reviewing video of organized team activities and communicating with his players and coaches every day, the Pioneer Press reports.

He can’t fly until the end of June and drove 12 hours to Independence, Ky., earlier this week after Vikings management told him to recuperate on his 80-acre ranch.

Speaking to reporters via conference call, Zimmer said doctors there were encouraged by the latest treatments to relieve pressure in his right eye, and he remains optimistic about rejoining the Vikings for their final week of organized team activities early next month, the paper notes.

“I’ll be back shortly with one eye or two,” he said. “It doesn’t matter. I’ll be back either way.”
