Newport second most dangerous city in Kentucky
Newport is the 2nd most
dangerous city in Kentucky, per capita

Newport is the second most dangerous place in Kentucky overall, says an online site known for posting FBI statistics.

"It may not be the most violent place, but since residents faced a 1 in 18.0 chance of being the victim of theft or arson in 2015, its overall crime ranking is pretty poor," says Roadsnacks.

"While their abysmal property crime has improved 12% in recent years, violent crime has seen a 17% increase probably not a good trade in the eyes of most Newport residents."

The website notes that every year the FBI releases two crime datasets, a preliminary dataset limited to the biggest cities in the country, followed by a more detailed release at the end of the year.

For its analysis, the site focused on the second release of 2015 data, specifically the 2015 Crime In The United States Report.

The site says it will update the results when data becomes available for 2016 in September 2017.

Hazard KY is listed as the most dangerous city, with violent crime going up by 58% between 2013-15. Louisville is fifth.
