NKY has 12 prescription drop-box locations
Take unused, unneeded or expired prescription drugs out of their original containers
Kentucky now has 149 permanent prescription drug disposal locations in 97 counties, creating more opportunities for residents to safely dispose of unused, unneeded or expired medications.
The permanent disposal boxes are monitored and are located in law enforcement buildings. Individuals can deposit their unneeded medications into the boxes with no questions asked.
The agencies will ensure the drugs are disposed of in an environmentally safe manner.
To help protect the environment and safeguard your home, it is important that you do not dispose of any medicines down the toilet, drain or storm drains. If you must throw your medications away, follow these federal guidelines:
Take unused, unneeded or expired prescription drugs out of their original containers. Be sure to conceal or remove any personal information, including the Rx number, on the empty containers by covering it with permanent ink or scratching it off.
Mix prescription drugs with an undesirable substance, such as cat litter or used coffee grounds, and put them in impermeable, non-descriptcontainers, such as empty cans or sealable bags.
Dispose of items in the trash.
